Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Rolls Out With New Air-Intake System In 2017

The 2017 Silverado 2500HD and the companion 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD are expected to arrive at Chevrolet and GMC dealerships this fall.

DETROIT — The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD will feature a functional hood scoop and a new patented air-intake system designed to keep the engine cool under tough driving conditions, General Motors said on Friday.

The redesigned 2017 Sierra Denali 2500HD features a functional hood scoop, hinting at powertrain changes.

Pricing and technical specifications on both will be released closer to launch.

The new air-intake system on the 2017 Silverado provides 60 percent of the air to the truck’s Duramax diesel engine from an inlet on the hood.

GM said cooler air helps the engine to run better under load.

“The 2017 Silverado HD was engineered to provide maximum utility for our customers even in the most extreme situations,” said Eric Stanczak, Silverado HD chief engineer, in a statement.

The new air-intake system has been tested in a wide range of conditions, from rain and snow to desert dust.

The upgrades to the Silverado 2500HD are designed to make it more competitive against the Ford F-250 Super Duty, Nissan Titan XD and Ram 2500.

Edmunds says: Truck buyers making fall shopping plans will want to check out the upgrades on the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD.
