Catching a glimpse of a homologation special road car from the Group B era, is the automotive equivalent of a wildlife photographer snapping a few frames of a snow leopard. We know they’re out there, we know they’re beautiful and majestic specimens, but their rarity and legendary status only amplifies the moment when you actually get eyes on one. Which is why a collection of seven homologation special cars (all from one private collector, no less) going up for sale later this summer at Bonhams Pebble Beach Auction is causing a stir. Not only does the collection contain the road-legal versions of some of Rally racing’s most lauded and legendary cars, but they’re all going without reserve. And in auction-speak, that means there’s no minimum price too low that the owner isn’t willing to accept. Something tells us that was a confidence move.
