2017 Maserati Quattroporte Receives Face-Lift, New Trim Levels – Motor Trend

To keep its flagship looking fresh, Maserati put the Quattroporte under the knife. Along with a mild face-lift, the four-door Maser receives two new trim levels in Europe, aimed at catering to the two specific groups of buyers who flock to the Italian sedan.

Visually, each Quattroporte features a redesigned front and rear bumper, now with new matte black accents. To match these new features, the Quattroporte wears matte black side skirts and restyled matte black mirrors.

Hidden in the depths of the redesigned front bumper is an electrically-adjustable “Air Shutter.” According to Maser, this glorified air vent assists with both cooling and the aerodynamic profile. While this might sound like a heap of marketing mumbo-jumbo, when combined with the new bumper design, the redesigned Quattroporte sports a 10-percent reduction in overall drag when compared with the older model.

On the inside, the center stack was reworked to now include an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, set up for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Move down to the lower portion of the center  console tunnel, and the Quattroporte gets a new rotary knob for both volume and infotainment controls. For those who cannot be bothered to operate the recirculate buttons on their own, each Quattroporte now comes standard with an “Air Quality Sensor,” a device that monitors the level of particulates and pollution entering the cabin.

The powertrain options remain the same, with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 producing 523 hp in the Quattroporte GTS, a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 pushing out 404 hp in the Quattroporte S or 345 hp in the base Quattroporte, and a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged diesel V-6 engine, making 271 hp (and not currently offered in the USA). All cars come standard with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

In an attempt to offer a Quattroporte for every type of customer, the sedan is now available in two additional trims. Hop up to the GranLusso package, and the car comes set up for the buyer who values comfort and amenities over performance. The GranLusso arrives with its own front bumper changes, including body-colored inserts and chrome-finished pieces. Wheels are a special 20-inch “Mercurio” design, with black brake calipers.

Inside, portions of the interior are covered in Maserati’s special “silk” fabric, including inserts on the seats, doors, headliner, and sun visors. For those old-fashioned types, fabulous open-pore “Radica” wood lines the dashboard and steering wheel. Keeping up with the luxury theme, the GranLusso packs more creature comforts, including power-adjustable foot pedals, powered rear sunblind, sophisticated “four-zone” climate control, and heated rear seats.

Is the GranLusso too cushy for your tastes? Worry not, as the Quattroporte is now offered in a fiery GranSport trim, a package that increases the visual aggression of the sedan. Like the GranLusso, the GrandSport adds small touches to the front and rear bumpers, with more aggressive openings and black accents. Piano Black trim extends throughout the cabin, along with an exterior carbon fiber package that adds a carbon weave to the external mirrors, door handles, B-pillar cover, and front bumper.

While the GranLusso and GranSport are offered for all engines of the Quattroporte, opting for the top-of-the-line Quattroporte GTS gets you either the GranLusso or the GranSport package as standard equipment.

For now, these changes remain for the U.K. market only, but we expect to see the U.S. launch of the refreshed Quattroporte later this year.
