To get a true appreciation of an F1 car’s huge downforce and huge power, you need to see it stacked up against something rather more pedestrian. Everyone knows F1 cars are fast, but seeing their speed relative to other F1 cars doesn’t quite show how much faster they are compared to everything else.
This old video, recently resurfaced on Reddit, cleverly shows normal track day cars side-by-side with old V10-powered F1 racers as they enter the famous Eau Rouge corner at Spa Francorchamps. Watch as the F1 cars enter the frame after their regular counterparts, but make their way to the top of the hill first.

In a corner like Eau Rouge, power helps, but downforce is what really makes the difference–The F1 cars already have more speed at the end of the straight, but they don’t need to scrub as much off in the bend.
