Today, it’s the Gold Coast Highway that runs through the middle of the beach town, and it’s high-rise apartments that tower over the road, not Qantas billboards, but it’d be hard to describe the 50-plus-year-old street scene above as sleepy, given all the traffic and cars parked along the street.
