Yes, You Can Dirt Track a Formula 1 Car in iRacing

We all have offbeat fantasies when it comes to racing. Maybe you’d like to drive a Koenigsegg Regera through a tree-lined rally stage, or take a drift car onto the Monaco Grand Prix circuit. Chances are those things will never happen. But that’s fine, because video games exist.

Thanks to hyper-realistic games like Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo, we can live out our wildest car-related dreams, whether it be driving a trophy truck on the Nurburgring or, in one person’s case, driving an F1 car around a dirt oval track.

Youtuber Sim Racing SKeijmel decided to lap a 2009 Williams FW31 Formula One car on a dirt track in the popular simulator iRacing. Something like this would never happen in real life—could you imagine an F1 team boss’s reaction if you even suggested it?—but thanks to the magic of technology, we can see it unfold.

Despite popular belief, F1 cars weren’t built to handle dirt ovals, so a lot of sliding occurs. But it looks like a ton of fun. Watch for yourself.
