Fiat 500XReview

The Fiat 500X is a butch-looking and efficient small SUV that competes with rivals such as the Kia Soul, Skoda Yeti, Suzuki Vitara and Vauxhall Mokka.

It clearly looks like a member of the extended Fiat 500 stable, but in reality it shares the bulk of its mechanical underpinnings with the Jeep Renegade.

Front-wheel-drive models will be the most popular, and rightly so. Both the 1.4 turbocharged petrol and 1.6 diesel do a fair job of delivering good performance and efficiency, while handling is composed and comfortable, if generally uninspiring.

A ‘Cross Plus’ model lives up to the rugged looks with an active four-wheel drive system, while all models offer enough space to easily accommodate a small family.
However, standard equipment could be better, so you’ll need to add a few bits to our favoured Pop Star trim, and list prices are a little high. Even so, if you’re after a something with SUV qualities and urban-appropriate dimensions, this is certainly one to consider.
