Subaru Recalled 383,101 Vehicles in Expanded Takata Airbag Recall

2009-’11 Subaru Forester
2006-’11 Subaru Impreza
2006-’11 Subaru Tribeca
2003-’06 Subaru Baja

WASHINGTON — Subaru of America is recalling 383,101 vehicles to replace defective Takata front-passenger inflators in three new campaigns, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Friday.

The Subaru recall also includes the 2006 Saab 9-2X vehicles.

“In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front airbags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling,” said NHTSA in its recall summary. “An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.”

There are no “Takata-related injuries” reported in these vehicles, Subaru spokesman Michael McHale told Edmunds.

Subaru dealers will replace the front-passenger airbag inflator. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Subaru customer service at 1-856-488-8500. Saab owners can contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-955-9007.
